Sometimes, just sometimes, nurses need motivational support, encouragement and inspiration, because sometimes, just sometimes, the emotional impact of the roles they do takes its toll.
The British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN) produces an information newsletter. In the spring edition my attention was drawn to a column written by Jane Brocksom. Jane is the SoMe Officer for BAUN and is exploring the professional development & CPD impact of twitter. Jane writes about how she remains focussed and motivated in her professional role and shares some of her strategies to ensure you don’t experience ‘burn out’ (pages 24/25 of the newsletter). I am a recent convert to twitter but am amazed at the nurses I have met on twitter and the amount I have learnt. I would thoroughly recommend you explore the world of twitter if you haven’t already (@ApolloNursing, @gbtpo, @HoorayJane will get you off to a flying start!).
Jane attended the launch of Apollo at the RCN in February and reflects on the launch event, the rationale for the Apollo Nursing website and how it might support Urology and Continence Specialist Nurses articulate the value and complexity of what they do. Jane suggests you google the Apollo team – so I did just that, and my goodness some really dated photographs come up! So apologies in advance for that….
In this SoMe digital world, there is support out there, so on those days when you need some inspiration why not give it a try?
